Frequently Asked Questions

Shipping

Absolutely! (Please check the next FAQ about where I cannot ship to). I have shipped my Original Artwork, as well as Fine Art Prints to multiple countries around the world. When reaching out to me using my contact form, please make sure to add your country to the information because this will help me to accurately be able to tell you more about the requirements for shipping to your country.

Unfortunately I cannot ship to EU, EEA countries or Northern Ireland due to the new GPSR laws.

The full list of GPSR countries is: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Northern Ireland.

If you think that I may have missed your country out of my shipping options, please let me know so that I can update my site for you!

Yes, once your order is dispatched, we will send you an email with your tracking info so that you can follow your art’s journey to it’s new home. All of my artwork is sent via tracked courier, this is more expensive but it gives a bit more peace of mind  about where the artwork is at any point in time, once it has left me.

Yes, I have worked on a lot of artworks that were bought as gifts for other people. Just make sure that you let me know if they are in a different country to you, so that we can ensure that your shipping costs are accurate and that we can complete all the correct paperwork for the destination country. Please also make sure that it is not one of the countries that I cannot ship to, See FAQ 2 above.

Shipping costs for Custom Portraits vary depending on the destination as well as the size of the artworks being sent. I can provide you with an estimate when you make your booking. Custom pieces are sent fully mounted/matted and that is why they will cost more for shipping than what the prints and originals available in the shop will cost.

Prints and Originals from the shop will give you a shipping cost before checkout. I do not make any money on the shipping charges.

I will only guarantee completion within a certain timeframe if it has been agreed upon in advance. Artworks take anything from 30 to 100 hours to complete depending on the complexity and size of the piece. I unfortunately have no control with regards to how long things take to ship.

Artwork Information

I play with a variety of mediums, I use Coloured Pencil, Pastel, Charcoal, Ink and Watercolour.

For Commission pieces, I almost exclusively use coloured pencils, I love working with them and the detail that I can achieve in each piece. For other Original Artworks that were not commissioned, I will vary what medium I use, sometimes even including 24k Gold or mixing media.

All the mediums I use are as lightfast and archival as possible. I want to ensure that each artwork last for many years without fading or deteriorating.

I use a variety of surfaces, depending on the effect I am wanting to achieve. This can range from Hot Pressed Watercolour paper to Pastelmat. My favourite surface for commissions is architects paper or drafting film as this is my nod to working on the “blueprint” of each breed when I work on each portrait.

All the surfaces I use are archival and acid free to ensure your artwork lasts for many decades without fading or deteriorating.

You can see all the info about custom commissions on my “Commissions” page

Artworks can take anything from 30 to 100s of hours. I am very particular and will only call a piece done once I am happy with it. The more complex a piece, and the larger it is, the more time it will take to finish.

You can see more details about commissions on my “Commissions” Page.

No, I have all my Custom Portraits professionally mounted/matted with white, acid free mount board. This then allows you to choose the colour frame that most appeals to you once you receive the piece. I do not offer a framing service as glass is difficult to ship without damage and it increases the shipping costs significantly with the weight of the frame and glass added.

Prints are sent without mounting/matting, unless you request it, in which case I will rework your quote to include this cost.

Yes, the general rule of thumb is that anything that is on paper needs to be behind glass. There are some exceptions to this rule, but, for all of my artwork and prints, they must be behind glass.

I recommend glare free, UV protected glass. The Ultravue Truevue glass is a wonderful glare free option that doesn’t break the bank. But, the ultimate in protecting your artwork for many years to come would be museum glass.

Every Original artwork or Fine Art Print will be sent with detailed care and framing instructions. I am also available at any point to help with any other questions you may have about your art.

Yes, all my commission artworks are created using photos of your pet as a reference. I ideally will use a high resolution photo that shows clear details, but can work from older photos or photos that are not the best quality.  When we do your initial free consultation about your portrait, I discuss which photos you have that would work best as a portrait and will send you  a mock up image to give you an idea of how that would look.

Yes, absolutely! This does affect the size of the commission though.

The price quoted for portraits is based on a single animal in a classic portrait pose, showing head and neck on a white background. I personally love the classic look that this gives.

I can include backgrounds and the pricing for this will vary depending on the complexity of the background.

We will do an initial consultation around which photo you would like me to use, what colour your pet is in natural lighting etc etc. I will provide a mock up for you to approve before I begin to make sure that you are happy with the overall look that I am aiming for.

Once I have begun, no major changes can be made to the overall look and stance of your pet. Due to the nature and difficulty of the surfaces that I work with, once colours and shapes are on the surface, it is extremely difficult to remove them without damaging the surface. Therefore, only minor changes can be made. The first minor change is free, but thereafter, they will incur a surcharge.

Please refer to my Terms and Conditions for more detailed information.

Payments

I take a non-refundable booking fee of 50%. This saves your place in my commission list and becomes non -refundable the moment I start on your commission. I do not usually take these very far in advance, usually 3 months before I will begin your commission.

The other 50% + shipping costs are due once I complete my artwork, and before I ship the artwork to you.

I accept debit / credit card payments, PayPal and Direct Bank Transfer.

I am happy to help with a payment plan for Commission pieces so that the amount can be paid in installments. Payment Plans require payment in full prior to commencement of that portrait.

Yes, I have Terms and Conditions which you can see here.
